VFW #3

The season is winding down and we want to get as much enjoyment as possible before tucking Mary Lou in for the winter.  The VFW will have these roll-ins through late October but as we witnessed last night when it gets cooler people don't stay until the end.

We didn't get out there until after 5:30 and while we had great parking spot thanks to Bill and Maggie, it got cooler and the sun is going down sooner so pictures were harder due to the lack of light.

It's fun running into familiar faces and remembering names.  Our evening ended watching a "drag race" between a '55 Chevy and a '34 Ford sedan 😄.  The best part of people leaving early is listening to the drivers giving it a little gas on the way out.

GOODGUYS MEMBERSHIP CARDS CAME AND WE GOT OUT PLATES!

We finally got our Goodguys membership cards in the mail.  With the sticker in the window, we wanted to be able to pull those out when needed 😃

And the big news today is we turned in our plates and picked up our personalized plates!

(Update - we will be getting different plates)

BLUE STAR MOTHERS OF AMERICA - 2022 HOT RODS FOR HEROES CAR SHOW

We ventured out to our second car show Saturday.  I didn't hear the final count but you will see from the pictures quite a few cars out there and for a good cause.  No award this time and a good reminder that's not what it's about...although I do have a shelf ready 😄

We parked next to Bill and Maggie again.  What made the day fun is we celebrated Bill's 75th birthday!  And they had their granddaughter Cora with them.

Here are some of the cars...the '57 Chevy belongs to Gary and Janet Sanger of Urbandale.  Gary is the current president of the Iowa Street Rod Association.  He fabricated the pedal car himself.

We did see a very special car to Cindy at the show.  Her dad had a 1966 Ford Fairlane GTA (the "A" stands for automatic).  We didn't meet the owner...he lives in West Des Moines though.  What's special about the car is that it's the same year, model and most likely color of the car he owned.  This car was stock so fun to peek inside and it brought back memories for Cindy.

Here is the only picture we have found of her dad's car...

Here is what we saw Saturday...
