SUGAR SHACK #5 2023 ZEB AND THE RIVIERA

Smaller turnout due to the weather.  It looked like it mine rain (didn't) and was muggy.  There was a breeze that saved us but ultimately owner Mark told the Band Spam to end things around 6:30 or so.

But the evening belonged to Walt and Marie and Bill and Maggie's grandson Zeb.  Zeb was excited to see our car and I let him sit in it and showed him around.  WE were excited that Walt got the '65 Buick Riviera out to play finally.  So a short night but we had fun.

The couple that have the yellow '54 Chevy that we like also have this yellow and black Camaro 😀

"Take command...get the thrill first hand!" (Dodge used that line in 1955)

GARAGE UPDATE - WHERE TO PUT THE AWARDS?

I jokingly say we don't care about awards or trophies...but I have a shelf 😂  I do have a shelf but some of these need to be hung so Cindy suggested I spread things out so here is the latest...

This is the main shelf

The CarFest plaque went up and I found a home for the cool wrench with pinstriping

BIG DAY FOR MARY LOU! ~ GRANDMA'S VETERAN'S CAR, BIKE & TRUCK SHOW 2023

We debated going out on Sunday for this show.  We knew it would be hot and we were not sure about 8 to 4 on this kind of day.  We lined up Jacob to help with Kyanne and we headed out with sunscreen and rocking hats to block the sun.

Mary Lou had a big day for sure.  We ended up winning three awards at the show!  There were 110 vehicles there and cars/trucks we hadn't seen before.  We got parked and Cindy wandered over to say hey to Gary and Sandy Pullen.  She came back and say we may want to move up front...there were some open spots.  We made the move and we got invited under the Pullen canopy so we were saved from the sun.

Here's what we won:

1) "Best Custom" from the Iowa Street Rod Association

2) Top 20  (a cool wrench with pinstriping by Joe Jones)

3) The Army Pick  (each branch had a pick and ours was dedicated to a fallen soldier)

Frosty presented the ISRA award and said to me "I just love that old Dodge..."

It was a great event and certainly a good cause.

Second award like this...both from Frosty.

The organizer used 3 different pinstripers...this award by Joe Jones according to Frosty.

They said "hot out of the oven..."

In memory of Sonya Wickersham.

Gary Pullen won the Kids Choice 😊 Those are the good ones...

Jason and Gary Pullen's rides.  Love the story on the Ford.  Gary said they have the window sticker, bill of sale and every plate issued on the car.

Frosty's tasteful '32 3-window.  Surprisingly understated given his talents.  But that's why I call it tasteful...

I voted for this 1950 Chevy.  Love the trunk treatment.  Very nice car.

The guy driving the Ford must have been 85.  Love it...it rumbles!

Very clean and original 1949 Ford pickup...for sale.

The 1964 Falcon below won an award.

1932 Chevy.  Very straight!

Shelby Cobra

Bugatti.  Sounded like a VW.

We saw this pull in and I guessed a Dodge.  It's a 1937 Plymouth so not a bad guess.

Love to see what people do to display their cars...

We've talked about a tray...it fits the time period but we like the clean look of Mary Lou.

These two tow trucks were pulled by yet a larger 4-door dually!

First year for the El Camino...1959.  Eventually got downsized.

What a boat!  A Pontic Bonneville 4-door hardtop.

Here is Mary Lou's twin.  Also a '55 (Ford) and I got up close...that paint really looks like ours.

Veterans lined up to be recognized and the mike was passed down so they could share more about their service...branch, time frame, etc.  Gary in line.

Vintage baby buggy meets pedal car 😃

Frosty was recognized for his contributions.  A trophy designed by other pinstripers...very cool.

Awards

Auction items

Frosty did this including gold leaf and a pinup girl on the top!

Here is where we started out...

Here are more from GearHeadPhotos...

Sandy made the pic

Much better pic of Frosty getting his recognition trophy

Frosty's car again

The plates on the car below said "Elvira"

I saw the scene from American Graffiti on the dash but now just realized Frosty painted!

Corey's sweet '55

Cindy's Continental Kit 😊

I saw two cars with this miniature feature...I need to get on this!

Hello, Mary Lou!

HELLO MARY LOU!
