CRUISE-IN AT THE OUTLET MALL #2

Another beautiful evening at The Outlet Mall in Altoona.  Maybe 12 to 15 cars but gave us a chance to visit with people more.  We had a nice time sitting with friend Bill and Maggie Ferrell.

Here I am talking with Dick (left) and Craig (right).  Dick drives a 1972 Fiat convertible (below) and Craig has a very cherry 1933 Plymouth 5-window coupe (also below).  They are both members of the Antique Auto Club of America.

Below...talking with Dick and Craig Wagner.  Craig drives the beautiful 1933 Plymouth.

Not sure what's going on here 😄

SUGAR SHACK FOR THE 3RD TIME AND HAD SPECIAL VISITORS!

Another beautiful evening at The 'Shack.  Maddy said she might stop out with Brayton since we were in Altoona.  And they made it 😀   We moved further away from the music and people just followed...something about seeing a baby.

ROLL-IN AT VFW

We went out to the VFW on NE 66th Ave (almost to NE 14th) last night and were pleasantly surprised.  There were quite a few cars out there and many we had not seen before.  Met some really nice people and several giving me leads on matching paint, etc. and of course learning of more car shows.  It was a beautiful evening and Mary Lou ran like a champ (thank you Bill!).

There were 102 cars.  The VFW Post 9662 Group Facebook Page put out a bunch of photos including Mary Lou and us!  I've included those pics here as well.

This is a bone-stock 1933 Plymouth.  A real time capsule.

And these from the VFW Facebook page...

DOIN' SOME DIAGNOSIN' AND FIXIN'

Mary Lou has been sputtering a little when accelerating and not always starting right up.  Part of that is on me learning what it takes to get her to start...how much to prime, when to punch the accelerator, etc.

Bill Ferrell is a friend of Cindy's from her high school days.  He was best friends with Cindy's first husband Gary.  In fact Bill even bought Gary's 1962 Chevy Impala SS that Cindy talks about so much.  Cindy has reconnected with Bill through Bill's wife Maggie and they have become part of our "car community".  Bill is a master mechanic and knows engines inside and out so he was kind enough to come over and diagnose what's going on.

He is a good teacher and I appreciate learning what's under the hood and how things should work.  He ruled out what it wasn't and he's not sure we know what it is...but he did find that the connections in the distributor cap were dirty so those were cleaned and a new piece put in for better electric connections.

The sign in the background says "Mechanic On Duty" and yesterday he was 😀

WHO DID THAT COOL PINSTRIPING?

When we were at our first car show, someone recognized the car and another person asked about the pinstriping.  The gentleman looked at the front and then went to the rear and said "Jim Hetlzer out of Muscatine".  (Update - that "gentleman" turned out to be Frosty Harrington!)

Here is a link to his website.  He is very accomplished in this field.

http://www.hetzstudio.com/

JC Hetz Studio is owned and operated by Jim and Chris Hetzler. We are a full service custom paint, graphics and pinstriping shop. Jim has been pinstriping and custom painting for over 40 years and takes every opportunity he gets ...

Jim has been freehand pinstriping and lettering for over 40 years. Although he specializes in street rods and motorcycles he also pinstripes many other items such as motorcycle horn covers for Chrome Dome MC, antique motorcycle restorations for the National Motorcycle Museum ...

UPDATE MAY 27, 2026, we met a guy with a 1947 International truck at Bennigan's.  Jim did his painting.  This guy said Jim was the only person to reply to him and did same day.  This guy texted Jim pictures of our car and Jim replied he pinstriped our '55 in 2008 at The Good Guys.

We met up with Bill and Maggie Farrell.  Steve and Amy came out to see us.
