CAR SEASON IS ALMOST HERE! ~ GOOD NEWS AND BAD NEWS

 The weather is warming up and cars are hitting the road and roll-ins are showing up on the calendar.  I didn't get Mary Lou winterized like I had hoped -- I did plug in a battery tender so that helped.  I had an issue with the radiator last fall.  About three weeks after I last drove the car I was going to check my anti-freeze.  But when I unscrewed the cap, it was like the contents were under pressure so I capped it again and left it alone.

Easter Sunday I thought I should get her started knowing the week ahead was looking great.  I thought of Bill helping me with pouring gas in the carburetor but I told Cindy I could figure that out.  I fed those carbs like a mother Robin and got her started and let it run.  That's the good news.  But when I shut it off so I could put the air cleaner back on, I heard a dripping noise.  Anti-freeze was running from what appeared to be the overflow tube.  I got some towels and a coffee can and it slowed to a trickle...then a drip and finally stopped.  That was the bad news.  It's either a leak or an issue with the thermostat so we are not quite ready to get her out of the barn.

MARY LOU IS ON THE WALL AT THE SUGAR SHACK!

 The owner of the Sugar Shack (Mark Poulos) told me last summer if I brought him an 8x10 photo of our car he would hang it up in the restaurant.  My first thought was that I needed to get out there when they were closed so I could get a photo with his sign in the background.

I finally decided that wasn't necessary after I found a photo with "Sugar Shack" in a window reflection 😀

We were out to eat there a few weeks ago and dropped off the framed photo but it wasn't until last evening that we were able to see it up.

TITAN RIDE TO A CURE - CAR SHOW

Cindy and I took Mary Lou to the Titan (Tire) Ride To A Cure Car Show on Saturday.  It felt like a last hurrah with the beautiful weather this last in October.  Titan puts this on every year to raise money for Cancer Research with all proceeds going to the John Stoddard Cancer Center. We heard there were 70 cars last year...the turnout this year was 137 cars!  Cindy is a nut...see her headband 😃

We were backed up to Bill and Maggie.  We learned that next year we should be facing north so when our hood is up we have natural shade.  We saw so many cars we had not seen before so we had fun with that.  We were parked next to "Mr. Edsel" and enjoyed visiting with him.  Our poster kept blowing over and we determined that in additional to Velcro holding the poster in place, we need a weigth on the tripod so it won't tip.

No trophies for us but on the way home I stopped by an old gas station and took a photo...

TIME TO OPEN UP THE OTHER CARBURETORS - HALFWAY FOR NOW

 Mary Lou was starting for me.  So Bill and Maggie came over to see what she needed.  Bill checked and we had spark and fuel was getting TO the carburetor but wasn't squirting where it needed to.  The fix for now (and maybe forever) was to open the other two carburetors halfway - meaning they won't kick in until I have the pedal down more than halfway.  But they should help squirt the gas where it needs to be to fire.

We also set the idle a little higher.  Bill is always good to show me what he's doing so I can learn.  I feel confident I know what he did and I could make adjustments in the future if needed.
